Faithful Servants: Dave and Diane Hultgren

Dave and Diane Hultgren

Dave and Diane Hultgren have been faithful servants at His Mansion for the last 44 years. Dave first came as a Resident in 1976, when he was diagnosed with drug-induced schizophrenia. After completing the program, Dave attended Word of Life Bible Institute to pursue a deeper relationship with the Lord. “When I finished up my time at Word of Life, I prayed ‘God how can you use me?’ The Lord made it clear that His Mansion had given me so much that I should go back and give them a year of service.”

Diane came to His Mansion in 1978 as a Servant Leader. Diane’s heart was to serve others in a counseling capacity.“I was a new believer and wanted to help people. I loved His Mansion Ministries and being in a supporting role. When I finished my Servant Leader year, I asked where they could use me. They needed help in the office so I’ve been there ever since.”

Since the beginning of their time at His Mansion, both have played vital parts in the ministry. Dave has worked in many roles including Servant Leader, Program Administrator, Director of Programs, and currently Men’s Counselor. Diane works in the finance department, managing the accounts and gives glory to God by saying, “One of the joys of working in the office is watching how God has miraculously provided for His Mansion over the years.”

Over their time here, they’ve raised four children and have seen the ministry go through a number of changes. “I would say it was a great place to raise a family because of the community aspect. Often, God brought families with children that could be peers to my children.” Dave and Diane’s faithful service at His Mansion has been such a blessing. They remain a constant presence on “The Hill,” touching countless lives with the gospel.

Over the Years

The original victorian mansion in Connecticut

This summer we are celebrating our 50th Anniversary. We’re astounded at how the Lord has allowed us to minister to young adults for over 50 years. Throughout the years we’ve had seasons of difficulty and prosperity, but through it all the Lord has been faithful to provide for our needs. We wanted to share some before and after pictures of how His Mansion has changed over the years.

One of the most significant changes is our main facility
and location. His Mansion Ministries began in 1971 in a victorian mansion in Connecticut. Due to a fire, the mansion was damaged beyond repair and we were in desperate need of a new facility. In 1980, we were able to purchase a large campus used for a Christian summer camp and retreat center. Before the fire, we were looking for ways to increase our capacity. The Lord took a seemingly tragic situation and gave us abundantly more than what we could ask for or think of.

Although the location has changed, the mission of His Mansion has remained the same. The Lord has changed hundreds of hearts, drawing people to Himself, whether Residents, Servant Leaders, or staff. It’s a blessing to be a part of the life-changing work the Lord does everyday.

These are only a few of the many ways that the Lord has done far more than anything we could imagine.

New Projects

We have an exciting new project that we want to share with you. As many of you may know, this past winter we ran into plumbing issues with our already dilapidated guest housing and other facilities. We are currently looking into other guest housing options on our property and will be sharing information on that soon.

Soon, we’ll be demolishing our current guest housing, the Chalet, and replacing it with a three-season pavilion. This will greatly benefit Residents, Servant Leaders, and staff.

One of the other buildings that endured water damage over the winter was the Long House. This building has served many Servant Leaders, staff, and their families over the years. We

are planning on renovating this building to effectively serve future staff members.

We will be raising support for both the new pavilion and the Long House over the coming year. If the Lord is leading you to partner on this project, please designate your gift to “Building Projects.”

Prayer Requests and Updates

As the year continues, please be in prayer for our ministry. Here are some requests and updates:

  • We are always looking to welcome more men and women who are seeking help to join our Resident programs.

  • We are searching for more building and maintenance staff.

  • We are always in need of young men and women looking to serve in our Servant Leader Program.

  • We need to replace our current walk-in freezer.

Thank you for partnering with us in prayer each month. Your prayers are valuable to us.
