Stories of Restoration—Joshua

Joshua was always emotional. Growing up, however, expressing that emotion was not easy or often times an option. In his early years, Joshua’s father was transient in his life, battling drug addiction. When his mother remarried, Joshua’s family moved to a Native American reservation where he experienced a culture that was stoic and quiet. Many saw Joshua as emotional, causing him to be bullied by the other children at school.

The bullying and other painful aspects of his past were overwhelming and Joshua learned to push his pain aside. At fifteen, he began drinking and using drugs. “I was in survival mode,” Joshua remarked. “I always felt like there was this dark figure looming near me. Some nights I couldn’t sleep because I was so scared.”

At eighteen, the Lord saved Joshua from an overdose and rescued him. While unconscious in the hospital, Joshua dreamed he was trapped in a cage in hell, the familiar dark figure was smiling from outside. Suddenly, a hand reached down from the sky and pulled him out. Joshua woke with a breathing tube in his throat. He motioned for some paper and wrote the words “God is real. I’ve seen Him.”

Over the next ten years, Joshua struggled between following Christ and falling back into his addiction. With the birth of his daughter, he realized he needed a longer program than he had previously attended, and through many prayers from friends and family, the Lord led Joshua to His Mansion. Arriving on The Hill, Joshua noticed a difference. The community was open and welcoming, something he had been looking for his whole life and had finally found in Christ and His people. Joshua knew that Christ’s love was real through the care of others.

Currently, Joshua is a Servant Leader. He completed his time in the Resident program in May and has returned to love and encourage other men coming into the program. Joshua looks forward to the hope and future that the Lord has restored for him.

Prayer Requests

  • Please pray that the Lord would bring more Residents. Currently, the women’s resident program has space available.

  • Please pray for more female Servant Leaders. Pray that the Lord would call young women to serve at His Mansion.

  • Praise God for the men that He has called to the Servant Leader Program. Two new men have arrived as Servant Leaders in the past few months.

  • Please continue to pray that the Lord would fill the two open job positions: the Communications Specialist and the Women’s Counselor.

Summer on the Hill

Summer in New Hampshire has drawn to a close. Much of the day’s work includes chopping wood, harvesting the last bits from the garden, and preserving the vegetables in the canning room. This summer, like many before, was packed full of exciting events and fond memories.

In early May, The Hill came alive bustling with visitors ready to serve on workgroups. Throughout the rest of the summer, men and women from churches across the country experienced life at His Mansion. Many are blessed by workgroups coming to The Hill, “They’re a really good example of serving for Christ and what it means to be part of

a community,” noted one Resident. His Mansion also celebrated a graduation. Six men and women finished their time in the Resident program. Each shared their testimony and how the Lord changed their lives over the last year. They said goodbye to everyone on The Hill and returned home to share the Gospel with friends and family. Many family members remark how drastically different their loved ones are when they return verses their first day at His Mansion, a testament to the Lord.

In July, the community celebrated a baptism. Six men and women publicly professed their faith in Christ. Praise the Lord for his restorative work in their lives.

New Servant Leaders have recently joined the program. Many are thankful for the Lord’s continual provision of faithful men and women. Joseph and Amanda both recently completed their commitment and the Lord has called them to new paths. Joseph has gone on to become an art teacher at a local school and Amanda will return on Flex staff.

Summer has clearly been filled to the brim with activities. Though at times the busy season is tiring, many relish the joyful memories and look forward to the change of pace in the next season.

Make a Lasting Legacy

My husband wanted to give
to His Mansion because he had observed the ministry staying true to its mission for over 50 years – it started to help broken people find freedom through Jesus and continues to do so.
— Nancy, His Mansion Legacy Partner
