Servant Leadership: Lily McGreevy

This month features Lily McGreevey, a former Servant Leader at His Mansion. In the interview below she shares her experience in the Servant Leader program.

How did you hear about His Mansion?

After high school, I was looking to gain experience before going to college. I was looking at a bunch of different gap year programs for ways to help people and gain experience in psychology work.

What drew you to His Mansion?

At His Mansion we get to work with Residents really closely–living with them, working with them, eating with them. It seemed like a very authentic way to build a relationship. What really drew me to the program was getting the opportunity to be a part of their journey and hear their stories.

Did you have any fears or hesitation about becoming a Servant Leader?

I think my biggest fear was my capability to do the job and my lack of experience. Was I going to know the right things to say or was I going to be able to actually have an impact on people? As a nineteen-year-old, a lot of the Residents were older than me and that was intimidating to be put in a position of authority over them.

What’s cool about being here, though, is that I’ve realized that it’s not me who has to have all the right words or qualifications. God is going to give me what I need to do the job well.

What has been rewarding about being in the program?

It has been the greatest honor and privilege to be trusted and let into someone’s journey toward healing–being invited to walk with them through their pain, sharing with me, and being vulnerable. It is the greatest honor to have been a part of that and see God work in their lives, seeing them heal from things in their past. The Residents here have taught me a lot about boldness and hope and trusting Christ through those things.

Spring on The Hill

After a cold winter and a few straggling snow storms, spring is finally making its appearance on “The Hill.” With seed starting, maple syrup boiling, and warmer weather appearing, everyone is looking forward to the change in seasons.

The maple sap began flowing earlier than ever, with staff and residents quickly collecting and boiling. By mid February, 1000 gallons sap was collected and boiled down into 25 gallons of fresh maple syrup! This syrup is enjoyed in Griggs dining hall, by staff families, and given to generous partners.

At the end of February, the Servant Leaders enjoyed a special appreciation dinner hosted by staff. Twice a year, staff take the time to honor the SL’s daily faithfulness and hard work by hosting a themed meal and fellowship with one another. The theme for this past dinner was Middle Eastern cuisine. Everyone enjoyed the unique dining experience and the delicious food prepared by staff.

In March, His Mansion welcomed a missions team from Wheaton College in Illinois to spend the week on the property and participate in life at His Mansion. The group watched many presentations on different aspects of the programs at His Mansion such as the Servant Leader program, and a presentation on counseling at His Mansion. They also helped on work crews and finished the week by hosting a Cabin Fever Day where everyone on the Hill gathered for fun games in the gym. The His Mansion community was so blessed to have this group come and share the love of Christ with everyone.

Prayer Requests

Here are a few ways to pray for the ministry, staff, and community members:

The men’s program is completely full until our next graduation. Praise God!

His Mansion is searching for a Director of Operations. Please pray that the Lord would bring the right person to serve in this role.

As the Resident programs increase in capacity, the need for Servant Leaders also increases. Please pray with us that the Lord would call men and women to serve here.

Thank you for partnering in prayer each month. Your prayers are making a difference on “The Hill.”

Partnership Opportunities

His Mansion is making continual improvements to its facilities. Below is a current list of equipment needs and ongoing projects:

There will be exciting new building projects happening this year including new staff housing, guest housing, and a three-season pavilion. Please designate donations for these projects to the “Building Fund”

After years of good service and heavy use, the main plow truck must be replaced due to a broken and rusty frame

The generator in the multipurpose building (MPB) needs to be replaced.

Thank you for partnering with His Mansion, whether that be financially or through prayer, your prayers are greatly appreciated.
