Flex Team Feature: Erin

The Flex Team is a new short term staff opportunity at His Mansion. Those serving on Flex were asked a few questions about their experience in the position. Below, Erin shared her experience in the new position.

How is being a Flex Team member different from a Servant Leader position?

One difference between Flex Team and Servant Leaders is that I no longer live in the dorm or follow a Servant Leader schedule. Flex staff can have any number of responsibilities that can be alongside Servant Leaders on work crew as well as other spaces like the classroom or office settings.

How did your Servant Leader year prepare you for this role?

My Servant Leader year prepared me for Flex by allowing me to really experience and get to know both the Resident and Servant Leader program. My time as a Servant Leader gave me insight and developed my love and passion for this ministry.

What have you found challenging about the Flex position?

My early months on the Flex Team were more difficult as I was doing several things on a flexible schedule. However, I have been able to spend the majority of my year on the Flex Team as the Intake Coordinator, which has better suited me.

What have you enjoyed about your experience on the Flex Team?

Flex Team has allowed me to continue to serve in a ministry that I love. There are many moving parts here and I have enjoyed serving and using my skills in new ways. Specifically in the Intake role and in class settings I am able to interact with Residents in a new capacity.  Another benefit of the Flex Team is learning from godly men and women as I work alongside them.

Visitors on The Hill

Workgroups are well underway this summer! Residents, staff, and Servant Leaders have been blessed by those coming from near and far to serve at His Mansion. The first workgroup, Gospel Operation International, served in May, followed by members of West Shore Free Church in Pennsylvania and then, in July, a group from Groton Bible Chapel in Connecticut.

Chris Chu, of GOI, shared a message during worship on a Christian’s response in the face of trouble and uncertainty. Many left feeling encouraged in the Lord’s strength in their life despite circumstances. Other GOI members helped in the kitchen and on workcrew.

In June, a new workgroup served at His Mansion from West Shore Free Church in Pennsylvania. The women Residents were particularly encouraged as the ladies in this group helped them sew quilts. “It was like a sewing mentoring session,” said Emma, a Resident. The ladies from the workgroup taught new sewing skills to the women Residents.

The most recent group to visit His Mansion was from Groton Bible Chapel in Connecticut. This church has a long connection with the ministry, going back to the original His Mansion location in Connecticut. Members of GBC helped by rebuilding two very old decks on the Long House and Griggs Dining Hall.

The community is looking forward to the other visitors who will be volunteering their time this summer. Workgroups are always a great example of Christ’s service-driven love to others.
