Katherine, her husband Erik , and their twins

Stories of Restoration: Katherine

Katherine has always struggled to understand her emotions and as a result, she developed unhealthy coping mechanisms as a child. She developed a rare behavioral disorder called Rumination Syndrome that later developed into a decade-long battle with Bulimia.

“I believe I was saved at a young age, but as I became more entangled with addictive behaviors and self-centered living, my relationship with the Lord weakened. There was a big disconnect between what I knew in my head and what I believed in my heart,” said Katherine. In 2016, she entered the residential program at His Mansion and came to terms with the fact that Bulimia was merely a symptom of her desire to control her world.

When Katherine initially arrived on “The Hill” she was in denial of the many habitual, destructive choices she was making along the way. Her distorted self-perception resulted in repeating the inner-healing phase of the program. “Coming to reality and looking back at my life from a place of connectedness was a slow and painful process, but the Lord met me there.”

Shortly following graduation from the program, Katherine slid back to old behaviors. “But God; He pursued me yet again and placed people in my life that spoke the truth,” Katherine said. She admitted herself to an outpatient treatment program, and used the tools she learned at His Mansion to continue seeking the healing that the Lord had for her.

“God has been unbelievably kind and it is His kindness that has brought me back to him time and time again.” Today, Katherine is married and a new mother to twins. She is still learning how to bring herself wholly before the Lord through the ups and downs of life. “I often ask myself, am I choosing to be connected and to sit in whatever uncomfortable feelings come my way and wait on the Lord?” Though the journey is and has been long, she is in awe of the Lord’s faithfulness.

New Project

Last winter, His Mansion’s guest housing was rendered unusable due to old age and other malfunctions. The leadership at His Mansion has decided to renovate another building for guests, and in place of the current guest housing, build a three-season pavilion. This will be a great addition to the property, allowing staff, Residents, and Servant Leaders to fellowship with one another and their families in the warmer months.

To partner with this project, please designate gifts to “Building Fund.”

The GOI workgroup prepared a special meal for those at His Mansion

Happening on the Hill

Summer at His Mansion has been busy with the changing of the seasons. The Hill has been bustling with people getting the gardens and grounds prepared for summer events.

Two new staff families were welcomed to His Mansion. Roles in building and maintenance and counseling have been filled with their arrival. It’s always encouraging when the Lord calls new families to serve Him at His Mansion. Their presence has already been a blessing and many look forward to how the Lord will use them to impact the lives of Residents and Servant Leaders.

The first work group of the season arrived in May. Members of Gospel Operation International came representing various churches across California and New Jersey. Everyone was greatly blessed by their willingness to serve. They even prepared a special meal for staff, Residents, and Servant Leaders.

Congratulations to six men and women who graduated from the Residential Program! Three men have returned to serve as Servant Leaders. Their presence in the dorms and at work have been incredibly beneficial. The other graduates have returned home and are continuing on the path that the Lord has called them—sharing the Gospel with their local communities.

Much has happened at His Mansion in just a few months and there is much more to come including workgroups, construction projects, building renovations, and a baptism. Continue to keep those at His Mansion in your prayers as the summer continues, as the Lord continues to move in powerful ways.

Partnership Opportunities

Below are His Mansion’s current partnership needs:

  • This summer, the deck attached to the Griggs Dining Hall will need to be replaced.

  • His Mansion grows and produces a large portion of its food. A greenhouse is needed to keep up with the large gardens.

  • A replacement plow truck is needed to maintain the roads during the winter snowstorms.

  • Construction is underway for new guest housing to replace the Chalet.

  • Next summer, a new pavilion will be built in place of the Chalet.

Thank you for those who have partnered and are considering partnering in these very needed areas.
