Stories of Restoration: Aaron

Aaron was born addicted. At the time of his birth, Aaron had drugs
in his system, had tested positive for HIV, and weighed only three pounds. He was taken from his mother and, by the grace of God, was adopted by another woman who provided a stable home with the support of a Christian community. At six years old, his adoptive mother passed away, causing him to live with an older sister and her husband.

His birth traumas and the unstable living situation after his adoptive mom’s death led to anger toward his family. At 15, Aaron began using drugs and continued despite overdoses, mental hospital admissions, homelessness, and rehabilitation.

“I became a monster when I started using,” says Aaron. He recognized that running from his anger was killing him. In 2019, Aaron managed to stay sober for six months. However, in March of 2020, Aaron returned to his addiction and was pronounced dead of an overdose. By God’s grace, he was revived and restarted his journey to sobriety.

Aaron arrived on The Hill in July of 2020 angry and scared. Through the Christ-like actions of others Aaron saw the Lord’s goodness. God’s mercy softened his heart; “He [Christ] showed me that He was there when my mom passed away. He showed me that He was there when I was freezing in a car and I had nobody. He showed me that he was there when I was an infant going through withdrawals. I had never been alone, because He was with me.”

Since graduation, the Lord has made a way for Aaron to continue in a supportive Christian community through a sober home. Aaron now has the strength to move forward, knowing that Christ never gave up on him, and will never leave him.

Happening on the Hill

Josiah, our recent graduate, and his Dad at Graduation in January.

It’s only March and we’ve already had a very eventful year on “The Hill.” We’ve celebrated graduations, commissioning, and our Servant Leader Appreciation Dinner.

At the end of January, we celebrated our Servant Leaders at our semiannual Servant Leader Appreciation Dinner. This is
a time for staff to show their gratitude for all the hard work that our Servant Leaders undertake. This dinner was a British theme, with dishes such as Beef Wellington.

Throughout January and February, we’ve had many new people join us. We’ve welcomed seven new Residents into the program and five new Servant Leaders. Some of the Servant Leaders returned after completing the Resident Program, others coming to The Hill for the first time. After a month of training, the Servant Leaders were commissioned into full responsibility of the Servant Leader roles.

We’ve also had a graduation. At the end of January, we celebrated Josiah as he completed the program. Josiah shared his testimony and received a certificate of completion for his diligent work this past year. He will be returning this month as a Servant Leader.

Partnership Opportunities

As the year continues, please be in prayer for our ministry. Here are some prayer requests and updates:

  • Prayers for both a Men’s and a Women’s Counselor for our Residents, in order to be accepting more Residents into the program.

  • Please pray with us as we look for a Director of Programs, that the Lord would bring just the right person to serve.

  • Prayers for Josiah as he returns to start the Servant Leader Program.

Thank you for partnering with us in prayer each month. Your prayers do not go unnoticed.

Prayer Requests

This season, we are working on making many facilities updates. Below is a list of the several partnership opportunities:

  • The carpeting in our chapel and dining hall needs replacing.

  • We would like to add a refreshment station to our dining hall, providing easier access to beverages for Residents, staff, and guests.

  • As we update our farm equipment, we are looking to replace our livestock trailer to more easily move our livestock.

  • We need to replace our walk-in freezer in order for our dining services to operate more efficiently.

If you are interested in helping with these projects and needs, contact us by phone at 603- 464-5555 or by email at info@hismansion.com.
